I think it’s great when an opportunity seems to come out of nowhere, but often times that’s not how it works is it? I read a St. Patrick’s Day quote the other day that said, “Luck is what happens when opportunity means preparation.” I like that a lot! Even the most successful leaders can miss opportunities if they aren’t ready for them; that’s why it’s vital for leaders to always be prepared, engaged and involved.
It’s hard to prepare for things if you aren’t in-tune and involved with what’s happening in all levels of the company. Do you recall the last time you sold something to a client or participated in a strategy or marketing discussion? It may be time for you to “get your hands dirty” and really get in touch with the team or business again. Whether you’re an owner of a small business or a CEO of a billion dollar company, challenge yourself with these four tactics to boost your leadership breakthroughs:
1. Embrace your dissatisfied clients. Reach out to disappointed clients, learn how to interact with them, and then LISTEN. Find new ways to collect constant client feedback; this will help you rebuild relationships with them and make better informed decisions with new potential clients.
- Don’t be a stranger.Plans days to be a part of a team that’s under your wing, and live as a member of that team for the entire day. This means participating in meetings, taking customer calls and going to lunch with the gang, too! This will help build relationships with employees, and it will give you perspective on any calls-to-action within the company.
- Keep a journal. Map your downfalls and progress every day. Think about what you did and what you need to do (from your perspective and that of your clients). You’ll start to pick up little patterns and you can adjust your actions accordingly. The smallest change can lead to the biggest breakthrough.
- Be protective of your time. Everybody needs a recharge— this could mean literal rest and relaxation, or taking time to develop a new skill or celebrate a success in the work place.
It’s all about being primed and ready for your next breakthrough!
